What a time to be alive. It is officially day 3 of 365 and I’ve already implemented some changes that have been ROCKING my world!
I know… I know.
New Year’s resolutions are so basic, right?
Well yes ma’am… they are. But I’m doing it anyway. Sue me.
One of my “life-changing” goals for 2018 was to develop healthier habits that promote a more creative and motivated self. So freaking spiritual, I know.
And something that falls right in line with that goal is developing a kickass morning routine that lets me start off my days right EVERY single day. And want to know the best part?
It’s totally working.
As most of you probably already know I dropped out of college. So having a great routine is totally something I’m in need of right now. Since implementing and following this new found morning routine my days have just been getting better and better. I wake up with more energy and purpose, and I also get a little bit of a sweat on. Which is freaking AMAZING to me. SO I wanted to share it all with you so you can have the best mornings of your life too!
WAKE THE FUCK UP
I’ve always been a morning person. I used to wake up every day at 5:30 am in high school. But nearing the end of the year I was sleeping WAAAY too much. I’m talking 10+ hours of sleep. I didn’t know what was going on but I knew I needed to fix it. So now I drag myself out of bed every single morning at 6:00 am. Is it great at the moment? No. Do I feel better about 15 minutes later? Heck yes. Just getting out of bed instead of lounging around has done wonders for my success during the day. So just wake up and get going.
GET IN SOME MOVEMENT
One of the biggest things that I was slacking on during December was moving. I would sit at school, sit at work, sit at home. I’d literally be sitting all day. And it’s actually SOOOOOO bad for you. This study even suggests it can cause premature death in middle-aged to older adults. I don’t know about you but I’m planning on living past 21 friends. So now every single morning I get my butt out of bed and hop on the treadmill.
Now, don’t think I’m any kind of health junkie. I’m not. I ramp up my incline, set my speed to 1.5 and turn on Netflix. Yes, really. This way I’m getting some physical activity right in the morning but I’m also not totally fatiguing my body. Also, does anyone else have bad knees? I am SO not a runner.
SET YOUR INTENTIONS AND PLAN YOUR DAY

A lot of people like to do this the night before. But the way I see it is that business never sleeps. So I can’t really plan out what my next day is going to look like until I wake up and check what’s happened overnight. So while I’m walking my woes away on the treadmill I write down a short list of things I’ve got to do for the day on the notes app. Anything I can really think of that I want to get done I’ll write it all down.
BUT, after that 30 minutes is up and I’ve dry brushed, showered, changed, etc. I take a look at my to-do list and only choose the 7 more important things. This is something I learned from good ol’ Richard Branson. Who says that he only focuses on 7 things to accomplish for the day. Just 7! Since starting this I’ve been finding I get a lot more done and the quality of my work has really improved because of it. I’ll totally be keeping you guys up to date on how this continues to go for me.
I’m a firm believer in hydrating yourself. Like a FIRM believer. My mom got me water bottles for Christmas and I’m so obsessed and thankful. Since then I’ve been CHUGGING litres of water. And I feel great. Every single morning I’ll wake up and drink 16oz right out of bed. It makes me feel amazing and gives me like instant mental focus. Which is great, because I love to work in the mornings. Once I’ve finished half a litre I add some freshly squeezed lemon and just a BABY squirt of my favourite lemon water enhancer. I find that lemon in water gets really bitter on me really quick, so having that little bit of fake lemon flavour helps it all go down much smoother.
5 MINUTE FOCUS MEDITATION
This has lowkey changed my morning routines. And it’s something I never ever thought I would start my day off with. But ever since I started doing it I just feel so much more focused and productive. So I’ve integrated it into my daily routine. So after I’ve done everything else in my morning routine I’ll sit down at my desk, throw my Howlite and Lava mala bracelet on, and get to meditating.
I always just type ‘ 5-minute meditation for focus’ on YouTube and pick whichever one I haven’t listened to yet. On days where I’m feeling like I need a bit more help I’ll opt for a motivating meditation instead. The first time I ever did this they rang a bell at the end and my mind felt like it turned to mush… in a good way. It was an unreal feeling I’ve literally never felt before. And I opened my eyes with this INSANE focus and drive. So… ever since that day I’m ALL for the 5-minute meditation.
