Today we’re chatting all about GRATITUDE JOURNALLING! As you’ve seen over on Instagram I’ve got a lot of journals. Bullet journal, planner, blog planner, a gratitude journal. You might think it’s a bit excessive (you might right) but I love my current journal system.
Anyways, I’ve been BIG on gratitude journalling lately. Which is why I wanted to pop on here today and tell you what it’s all about! And what better way to do it than a cute lil video?
In classic Karly fashion, I’ve opted for this pink metallic journal. But I do actually LOVE this guy because it’s a larger sized journal. Perfect for getting out all your gratitude and doing some actual journalling too. Now… that’s probably a bit confusing. Which is why this video was totally necessary:
WHAT IS GRATITUDE JOURNALLING?
A gratitude journal is a diary of things for which one is grateful. Gratitude journals are used by individuals who wish to focus their attention on the positive things in their lives.
So basically, gratitude journalling is literally just writing down everything you’re grateful for. It can be the simplest things from waking up on time to the sudden $100 in your bank account. Simple right? But I really like to kick it up a notch…
BUT. Before we jump in, let’s talk a little bit more about why gratitude journalling is soooo freaking good for you.
WHY GRATITUDE JOURNAL?
I swear by gratitude journalling when I need to bring positive energy into my life. By writing down what you’re grateful for you can bring so much extra positive energy into your life. In this article they even said that “According to a study by researchers from the University of Minnesota and the University of Florida, having participants write down a list of positive events at the close of a day — and why the events made them happy — lowered their self-reported stress levels and gave them a greater sense of calm at night.”
Something else that gratitude journalling really helps me with is appreciation. I’m the kind of person that only sees BIG goals (I’m working on that – stay tuned for a great blog!) so I become discouraged very easily. For example, a goal in my business is to reach 10,000 followers on Instagram. Before I started gratitude journalling I would just focus on the 10K and no other growth. Now? I appreciate all the little things and all the time and energy it’s taking to get there. As a result? I feel SOOO much happier and way less stressed when it comes to goals.
HOW DO YOU GRATITUDE JOURNAL?
Everyone can journal differently, I totally respect that. But what’s been so useful for me has been the following:
Write 5 things I’m grateful for that day
Write 1 thing I want to achieve in 2018
Write my greatest accomplishment of the day
(I usually do this right before bed!)
After that’s all written down I do some future-self journalling. In short, I write a journal entry as my future BEST self. This is totally personal and I feel like it rewires your brain and makes you EVEN more motivated to achieve your goals.
I usually start off every future-self journal like this: “Today I am SO happy because…” And then I just go through and write out my ideal life. Looking to get 4,000 YouTube watch hours? “Today I am so happy because I FINALLY hit 4,000 hours on YouTube”. Simple as that!
I try to hit every aspect of my life in the future-self entry as well. I’ll usually start with my business goals, move to my relationship goals, and finish with my body goals.
Well that’s it peeps! What, why, and how I gratitude journal. I hope all of you to take a crack at this tonight, it’s honestly AMAZING. If you try it let me know! Take a fancy photo of your gratitude journal, post it on your story, and tag me. I’d love to see!
